DOI: 10.1177/153331759400900503 The changing face of sexual intimacy in Alzheimer's diseaseRush Alzheimer's Disease Center Chicago, Illinois Sexual problems encountered by married couples coping with Alzheimer's disease appear to be a fairly common, yet seldom addressed consequence of the disease. This article reviews current knowledge about the impact of Alzheimer's disease on sexuality. The major effects of the disease on the sexual responses of affected individuals and their spouses are discussed and highlighted through examples. Guidelines for interventions by social workers and other professionals who work with these couples are recommended.
