Swedish Ameican Hospital at Rockford, Illinois. A major issue in caregivers' management of dementia is their interaction with the patient's physician. This paper explores the expectations and attitudes of caregivers relative to the perceived roles and responsibilities of the medical profession in the diagnosis and treatment of dementia and examines level of satisfaction with aspects of medical management. Findings indicate that caregivers want support and acknowledgment of their role from the medical community, as opposed to simply assistance with behavior management.
