A survey of the service needs of caregivers of Alzheimer patients in Maryland's capital areaSchool of Social Work, University of Maryland, at Baltimore, Maryland This study is based on a pilot survey of 24 caregivers of community-based Alzheimer's disease patients in Montgomery County and Prince Georges County, Maryland. Service needs indicated by the data are-affordable, reliable respite care, companion programs and homemaker services; available residential care and housing for those not requiring custodial care; legal assistance; policies to alleviate financial burden; day care; transportation assistance; knowledgeable, understanding and sympathetic physicians; and a centralized effort to coordinate services and provide guidance to caregivers in need of assistance.
